High level research.
Street level engagement.
Next level solutions.

Living Lab Northern Rivers is a space where research and community come together to create the solutions that will allow our region to thrive in uncertainty.

A collaboration between two universities and the NSW government, our strength comes from the diversity of people we bring to the table.

Look Ahead

We know the problems. Now it's time for the Lismore region to focus on solutions and start designing the sort of town we all want to live in today and over the next century.

“To make something brilliant, we need high-level technical expertise alongside lived experience from people in the Lismore CBD and its surrounding neighbourhoods. ”

Look Ahead is a codesign process — a series of community and expert meetings— made to kickstart this process.

What’s on — upcoming events

  • Exhibition: Bring It On Home

    Open each Tues—Thurs, 1—4pm
In our shopfront at 11 Woodlark Street, Lismore 2480

Bring It On Home is an invitation to everyone in the Northern Rivers to think about housing beyond our own doorstep, to learn what we have around here and, more importantly, what's missing. In this exhibition we've included some excellent housing projects exploring the ways we may forge a path forward. We also speculate on a few local sites to see how the community feels about the potential of these new approaches.

Join us in imagining a thriving tomorrow with housing that's more than just shelter, but diverse and responsive.

Access all areas

Almost a quarter of the Northern Rivers can't access the places most people take for granted, like our beaches, parks and public toilets.

That's a significant chunk of the population…

Good design is good for all. How does design impact people’s independence and ability to participate in our community? How do we build inclusive teams?

We recently brought research and local knowledge together in a Living Lab Talk: A Home for Every-body. UTS researcher Phillippa Carnemolla was joined by Northern Rivers locals Andy and Cath Graeme-Cook, and Zac Misfud, to discuss inclusive design and community-led research.
